Forty classic rally cars will be starting from Glasgow in the 2013 Monte Carlo Classic Rally on Saturday 26th January, with the aim of reaching the finish line in Monte Carlo in four days and covering a distance of some 2000km.

Crews from Australia, the Czech Republic, Malta and France will join the UK starters in Glasgow. They will cross the Channel at Dover then drive to Valence for the start of the famous concentration runs in the Alps before emerging at Monte Carlo. Around 40 'Monte Classic' entries are using Glasgow as their starting point for 2013.

First run in 1911, 'The Monte' is one of the most famous and glamorous motorsport events in the world. Glasgow will capture some of that magic as one of the four official international starting cities for the 2013 Monte Carlo Classic.

The event is free to attend, including the display and the official rally start. Up to 12,000 people are expected, with one of the attractions being a showcase of about 50 Scottish Heritage cars on display in Buchanan Street from mid-morning on Saturday, January 26.

The Lord Provost of Glasgow is expected to wave off the first rally car at about 2pm from the People's Palace in Glasgow Green. Around 40 cars leaving from Glasgow will attempt to go all the way to Monte Carlo, with a further 60 classic cars from all eras joining them over the start ramp in additional support events.
