Austin 1300 Plastic Bodied Prototype, 1973

It's slightly off-topic for this site, but this standard-looking Austin 1300 has a glass-reinforced plastic (fibreglass) body. The lighter body weight gives it a slightly higher ride. Sadly it remains only a prototype. Even sadder is the fact that the excellent 1100/1300 design was scrapped and replaced by the dreadful Austin Allegro.

The car is seen at the Alec Issigonis Centenary day at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon on 15th October 2006. (Photos: R. Porter)
