Hi all

Just wondered if anyone on here was planning on going? My Marcos should be on Specialist Components stand, along with me

Hope to see some of you there...

I'm glad someone got someone got some pictures because of the drinks the night before! Completely Forgot

The engine didn't fit under the bonnet, but there were so many holes in the bonnet already  that I had no complaints cutting a few more! I made a plywood framework to fit, then smoothed with filler, then painted and polished. I then made a mold from that, and a nice fresh bonnet out of that! The reaction to the bonnet is mixed - I'd say 50/50 on 80's power-bulge style cool, and the other don't really like it!

Output? 1360cc, Twin K(c)am 8v (std porting), 16v Throttle Bodies, Playmini Exhaust. Neither is it run-in nor has it been dyno'd - But I'm hopeful for between 110-120ish honest (!) bhp...

It drives pretty well. Not sure if its the MondoSport steering arms (they use rose-joints instead of track rod ends) are the reason its a bit vague about the straight ahead. I need to go around the car and re-tighten everything as well as re-shim the lower ball joints (an MOT advisory TBH). The lack of weight, and the generous torque and power mean that feels very 'point and squirt'!

Far away... I had the car trailered!

Not the prettiest Marcos that's for sure, but at least it is on the road and being driven.

That's Neil Bayliss' car. Absolute Mini nut.
He also has an Elswick Envoy. I think he had a Tici at one time also. He's a well known member of the IMM family.

I know what you mean Grant!

Nothing stopping you posting a few pictures now though Matt.  I'd like to see how the bonnet turned out.  I like the carbon fibre plenum mind!

What rev range do you have with the 8v head?  And in the fourth picture down, what is the big silver attachment on the exhaust side of the engine?

The 8v head has hotter cams than most of the 16v heads come with. At the moment Ive self imposed myself a 4.5K rev limit... But in the long run the revs are limited by the crank (just balanced rather than a billet item. The power peak should be circa 7K, although is perfectly drivable from idle (even while the engine is cold).

Im not sure about the plenum. When we take if for its RR session Simon is going to bring along some ram pipes just incase the air box actually looses power!

The big silver attachment is a Rotrex supercharger - SC's latest addition to their price list - annoying as I'm are fairly sure it'll fit under my bonnet, and an intercooler would slot nicely behind the numberplate recess :-p Best pay off what I already have first I suppose!

I just wondered what the likely rev range of the k-heads engine was.  I know the BMW bricks are quite low reving (for a motorbike) but the little I've read about the car engine applications suggested they performed best at 7-9k-ish rpm.  As you mention, with a balanced as opposed to billet crank I think that would be pushing it a bit.  I wondered if the 8v heads were a little calmer - sounds not, if the profiles are that bit wilder!

Nice compact 'charger installation by the looks of it!  I assume the pipe leading around the back of the block (under the air filter) leads to the inlet side, via an intercooler/chargecooler.

Do you have any pictures of your bonnet?

ETA - I don't think I mentioned, car looks good.  Make good use of it as the weather improves, won't you!  Nice clean bulkhead too
