I've just received the Club Magazine and I see that some Mini Marcos heated front windscreens are being made. I know the Jem ones are different and far more expensive, but please can some heated windscreens be made for Mini Jems too? I'm sure many of us would like to have one of these fitted to our cars in time for the misting-up days of Autumn and Winter. It would be far better than sourcing a heater blower to put on the dash top.

Hi Jeremy

If you can encourage another nine or more Mini Jem owners to say "yes" to a heated front screen, I'd be very happy to get some made.
The minimum order is 20 so the club would have to under~write the balance

Are you up for the challenge?

All I will need is a list of the 10 or more people and a deposit of (£100?) per person.
The total cost of the screens is likely to be well over £4,000 hence the need for some advance orders

Come on you Mini Jem owners - support Jeremy and the club will support you!

Many thanks for your encouragement, Roger. I was expecting a simple "NO"!

I'm sure many Club members will have driven modern cars with heated front windscreens and will know how superb they are at quickly clearing frost and mist from the screen in damp or very cold weather. If, like me, you are restoring one of our rather nice cars from just a body shell, or you wish to improve your car , one of the best changes you could make has to be the fitting of a heated front screen. On my buying parts list, it was a "must-have", if available.

Well now we have a chance to each get one. As you can see, we need at least 10 to be ordered, making the cost apparently about £400 each. Well that's not too expensive considering an ordinary Jem screen is now £220. I asume, if we get lots of orders, that price would come down too.

As a matter of interest, I've just had 4mm acrylic door windows and the rear screen made and they cost over £200, so paying a little more for such an excellent component seems quite reasonable to me and I'm sure those with Jems in very cold countries would be most pleased to fit one to their car.

If you are interested in having one, please add your name to the list.

When do you want my deposit, Roger?

I'd certainly be interested in a heated windscreen when I get round to refurbishing the Jem. How about a heated, double curvature rear window as well?

Hi Jeremy (etc)

I would expect them to cost much less than £400 each, probably less than £250, if we can get enough orders

The minimum number we can order from the manufacturer is 20, so if we get 10 people prepared to put up deposits in advance, the club will "only" have to under~write the balance.

We so far have two people saying YES, so just another 8 needed

Come on you Mini Jem owners........

If they are going to be less than £250 then EVERY Jem owner should consider buying one to keep "just in case". You never know when you might need one and having one to hand to use immediately seems to be a very good idea indeed.

Does anyone know how the wiring connections are made to the screen and also what size fuse to use?

I've wired the rear window through the ignition switch via the normal 35 amp fuse. I guess a front screen would take a bit more current but I don't know. In any case it will drain the battery quickly if left on without the engine running. Uprating the alternator might be worth considering.

Is that wired to the screen with a couple of normal spade connectors?

The rear one is. I don't know if that will apply to windscreens.

I'm running a heated screen on my Midas, all I've done is wire it into what would have been the rear heated circuit on the donor car. Much ice melted in winter with no problems.

The screens we were supplied with had four flying wires, live and earth for left and right sides of the screens.

Thanks for your interest

We don't need deposits just yet, but what we do need is a lot more people saying "yes please, I'd like one of those"

It looks like we have 3 so far - another 7 should be enough to convince the Club Treasurer to part with enough money to place an order with the manufacturer

Hello all

We now have 5 Mini Jem owners on the waiting list for a heated front windscreen.
As I've previously explained, we have to order at least 20 from the manufacturer, so need half of those to be pre-ordered before we go ahead.
OK, 5 is an excellent start, but are there any other Mini Jem owners out there who would like to say "yes please"???
