Hello to all,
I have purchased this car from its current owner and look forward to restoring it over the coming weeks...months...years....who knows! I have been on the look out for a mini cooper for a while but found the whole process a little painful with reshells and high prices etc. So I saw this and thought "why not" and took the plunge.
It was previously owned by a gentleman who passed it on to his daughter and from her it went to its current owner. It has a 1275cc engine which turns over, the bodywork is in good shape and it comes with a few odds and ends. Intention is for it to be a fast road and track car for sunny days out at Goodwood and the like.
I am new to Minis - I own a 1969 Lancia Fulvia 1.6HF and am a member of the Lancia Motor Club.
I will no doubt be on here frequently looking for information and providing updates.
Cheers,
Jonathan |

Hi Jonathan, welcome to the forum. It looks like a nice project to get stuck into over the winter! You'll get plenty of advice on here if you get stuck.
You can only upload one photo at a time to the forum. If you want to do several in one post then put them on a different site like photobucket.com or flickr and put image tags in your post, but it's fine as above.
You are always welcome to send me new photos to update the car's page on the Mini Jem Gallery. |

Hi Jonathan,
You mention Goodwood, are you in West Sussex? I live near Billingshurst if you need any help or advice.

Hi Allan, sadly not! I am in Harpenden, Herts but have been to Goodwood a number of times on track days and of course for the Revival and FoS. Appreciate the offer - I am sure I will be asking for plenty of advice. |

Well, car has now arrived and is being stored at a local garage until I make space. Given I hadnt seen it prior to buying I was a little apprehensive before going to take a look today...but, its as in the photos - there is no damage to the body, but its going to need a lot of work and is a touch "see through" in a few spots. It seems largely complete and a great basis for a cracking car! Will upload a few more photos later. |

Hi Jonathan. What a cracking car. It looks like a very good base to build on. Also a good thing that is has its original dashboard. |

Well there's a bit to do. It probably looks worse than it is because it hasn't been used for some time. The shell looks reasonable. Has the nearside A pillar been replaced? I assume it's white gelcoat - most of them were - but what's the grey stuff? What's the rear subframe like? The end plate bolts could be difficult to get out without shearing them off. Replace with stainless allen bolts if you reuse the subframe. Fit adjustable camber brackets as you're likely to need a bit more negative. |

Happy New Year all. Wish someone had told my kids a 6.30am start is just not on....
The car will need a full strip down and I anticipate new subframe front and maybe rear. Don't think it's had a pillar work and grey must be remnants of primer applied at some point in anticipation of something.
Off to Brooklands for new year meet. |

I would have been off to Brooklands if the Jem was running properly. The Marcos isn't pre-1973. |
