Hi all
I am going with a mate to look at this Jem on sunday. http://www.veteranposten.dk/visAnn.asp?Id=71815
Car looks to be in ok shape, but i would like to be sure that all the metal reinforcement in the shell is in good nick. Does these have steel laminated in, in the same places as the Mini Marcos? If there is anything here to be catious about, i would love to hear it.
Also if any of you knows this particular car, i would love to hear some more.

We know this car. It used to be owned by Chris Frost in the UK. You'll see it in one or two show galleries. It looked quite tidy externally, apart from the extra bump on the bonnet, but I don't know what it was like under the skin.
The Jem has steel inserts in the usual places (subframe & damper mounts), plus a tube that goes across the floor in front of the seats, and up and over the doors. The bit on the floor can rust out. There are also two steel bars across the front of the lowered part of the floor but they don't do much apart from giving you an extra bit of protection if you ground it. The inserts in the rear arches are a bit more extensive that those in the Mini Marcos.
I'm of the view that you can well do without the steel inserts if you have sufficient thickness of fibreglass instead, but you do need the engine bulkhead cross-member. |
