Hi Everyone, Ray Rawlinson has just contacted me, and was the original owner and builder of LUR 98 H which now resides half restored in my garage. Ray has offered to fill in some of the cars history and has sent a photo of it in its prime. What a great stroke of luck ! Many thanks Ray. |

Hey, I know that Mini Marcoses are prone to letting the water in, but is it that bad that you need conoes ? |

Is that what they are ! I thought they were part of the sunroof mechanisam. I think it's a bit like the James Bond Lotus esprit with ski racks, you never know it might catch on ? |

I've had that photo from Ray for a while and it's actually been on the web site but not linked from the index pages. Hopefully that has now been rectified. |

Just to keep you all up to date, Ray is coming over from the good old US of A to view the wreck that used to be his pride and joy. I will take some pic's of him with the car and post them for the world to see. Ray is currently restoring a 20,000 Klm Lotus Europa, from the sound of it it just needs the engine putting back together (lucky bugger). I have been so busy doing the kitchen and bathroom this winter that the Marcos has been a bit of a dormant project (soon to be revived).

How is it that house decorating always seems to get precedence over a Mini Marcos restoration/rebuild ?? |

Probably more due to the fact that it takes so much time to build/restore a Mini Marcos, you just don't notice the house deteriorating. |

Question.-What's the first thing you do when you start restoring a Mini Marcos ?
Answer.- You paint the kitchen. |

The answer in my case was :strip out the old kitchen, lift the floor, re-wire, move heating pipes, re-plumb,replace floor, have the whole thing re-plastered,fit new kitchen units, new lighting, new cooker,re-tile the walls, tile the floor etc etc etc. Then she who must be obeyed said not to spend any money on 'that heap in the garage' ho hum!! No she's lovely really (I had to get that bit in). |

Well Ray and his father came down the other day to have a look over the car that they built and swop yarns about it. Lots of interesting stories came out, hopefully I will be able to write them down and send them to the magazine as an article. Ray also came with the original build manual, sales leaflets and the article in Hot Car that persuaded him to buy the Marcos instead of the Jem. I will type out the build manual for the MK3 as it does differ from the Mk4 one on the web site, most interesting is the advice on how to mount the door trims so that the door does not twist. I will attach a photo of Ray and myself with LUR, Ray is on the left. |

I have finally got around to undercoating the old girl, you never know I may even get some top coat on !! I think I may do her in Mini Almond green with white stripes, what do you think? Who knows at this rate she could be on the road for the summer ( hold on the wife has just fainted with the shock !) |
