Well it's been a while since I last posted an update.
Work commitments have meant that I haven't made as much progress as i would have liked, but progress is being made none the less....
Hmmm,
Whats going on here then??

Nissan 1.3 16v is the future !!! |

Looking good, is it going to fit without any bonnet and headlight mods do you know? is that a Janspeed manifold? it looks pretty neat
Interesting how they are positioned at an angle in their original home
Here's mine today, just about ready to pull out

I'm hoping to get away withouth any headlight mods, though it won't affect me if it does
Not sure yet about the bonnet, but it is looking good at present, steering rack is another concern. I believe the 'box off an early Micra is smaller..
Glad to see somebody else having similar plans Stuart, drop me a PM sometime and we can trade experiences! The manifold is a Janspeed copy, but I'm not going to use it won't fit with what I have already done (air-dam etc) .. Let me know if you are interested in buying it!
'elf 'n safety

Less 24 hours after I bought it

I'm doing this conversion to a Clubby estate at the moment,
Started back in November, here is the donkey motor in the subframe jig

My donor engine comes from a rat Micra.

It's a CG13DE engine thats running on motorbike carbs.

Engine out, this is my welder and fellow IMOC member Joe Whyte who is also doing a Micra conversion for his Clubman Retro Raceer.

This is the subframe at the moment after a few revisions, still a few niggles to sort.

And this is the Mini it's all going into.

The plan is to have the estate ready for the IMM in Switzerland in June. |

The Micra engine is 100bhp in standard form, it's all alloy so its heaps lighter than the A series, it can be fuel injected or carbed, you don't have to modify the bodywork in a Mini to fit it, and you get a free 5th gear in the gearbox. |

All that Neil says really, plus twin overhead cams, 16 valves and hopefully a bit of leak free releiability!
As for paint - will be going Modena yellow at some point, but not for a while yet.
Recent progrees~

Todays efforts:

Well at least it sort of fits... The diff on the 1.3 gearbox protrudes quite along way, and was fouling the steering rack. I have relieved the box by removing the metal around the speedo drive, but I think I may still have to relieve the rack to ensure sufficient clearance. Failing that I will have to settle for an early 1.0 gearbox which is alot smaller, but with 10" wheels I think it will top out very quickly.
On the upside the bonnet fits without the need to add a bulge, and there is a good 10mm clearance on the offside between the engine and the headlight pod so no visible bodywork modes required
Out of interest what would be the effect of lowering the steering rack by about 40mm?? |

Craig, really impressed by the amount of clearance around the Micra engine. And the body shell is looking good as well.
However, a word of advice about moving the position of the steering rack. Don't.
The correct location of the rack is ultra-critical to get the steering geometry right and avoiding the worst effects of bump-steer. For more information about this read the books by Allan Staniforth, designer of the Terrapin, rear engined single seater originally using Mini components. He has chapter and verse on the subject.
Best regards, Nigel |

Nice work Craig. Weirdly this thread seems hidden? I've got here via your profile, I can't seem to see it on the board.
Edit, well it's there now, most odd.
Edit again, Just realised the last posts were May 2012, silly me |

Nissan conversions can take a back seat sometimes, my nissan engines Clubby Estate project has been at a standstill for 22 months now, the resurection of this thread might just be the kick start I need. |

Well I have to say that progress has not been exactly rapid, mainly due to the fact that I have been working away from home 5 days a week solid for the last 12 months; however over the last couple of weekends I have made a point of getting over to the unit and have made some good headway
Engine / gearbox back in (again) - and now clear all around:

Clutch Cable / Bulkhead:

Modified Pedal Box:

So for the first time since I took ownership, something on the car actually works!!
