Anything is possible, but if you are looking to replace the engine without modifying the shell/subframe you are talking about any of the A-Series engines, the Turbo may need body mods though. There is a picture on the forum of a Marcos being made to fit a Suzuki Swift engine with modified front subframe. Any of the standard Mini Hybrid set ups will work, with a little body mods.
Transverse V8 anyone ? |

If you choose an engine that originally came from a Metro you may have to fiddle about with engine mountings and clutch operation but basically it will fit in the same space.
The Turbo unit takes up a fair amount of space in an area where the Marcos doesn't have a lot of space.

have a look over on the 16v mini forum, will show you what can be done! the other option for more power is going the twin cam head route, im going to be building a BMW K head engine in the new year which may end up in a marcos, when i get one!! |

I have seen some guys trying to put a Vauxhall corsa 16V head on a mini engine.. Nearly all the holes were the same ! But you have to thing by yourself do I want a corsa head on my mini engine .
And as John says you have to think about the engine mounts at metro engines. The are totally different so you have to buy mini ones to fit a Marcos subframe. I can make pictures off this if you want because I am putting them on my engine by now.
