Dear,
I'd like to connect my central speedo to my gearbox but my standard cable ( 30"; 76cm ) is so short.
Does some of you know where I can find a longer cable or an extension.

Speedy Cables can also make up any type of cable to any length. They made the speedo cable for my GTM Coupe and that's got the engine in the back! |

Hi Jeff
I'm using a 48" speedo cable - SIZE MATTERS!!
Most of the decent Mini spares people do various lengths - you just need to work out the minimum length that you need and the type of fitment as yes, they vary. Mine links to a 1275GT speedo head, located in front of the steering wheel, right hand drive.

When I got my Mk.IV kit it came with an Austin A60 speedo cable which was very long. It looped over the rocker cover and in through the bulkhead in front of the speedo which is directly in front of the driver. If you put the speedo in the middle you can use a shorter cable. If it's on the left I'm sure one of the Mini speedo cables will do.
However I now use a much shorter cable which passes up through the bulkhead crossmember behind the take-off on the gearbox, and from there straight to the speedo. Much neater.
The Clubman/GT speedo has a different connector from the normal Mini speedo head.
I have used Speedy Cables in the past and can recommend them. |

Autin Maxi ones work but sometimes you have to trim the inner down by a few mm |

My Jem speedo has just packed up. I don't know if it's the cable, but I'll have to investigate tomorrow. |

After detaching the cable from the speedo, checking that it was still rotating and replacing it, the speedo now works again. I haven't a clue why it stopped. |

Hi Jeff
As you now have a speedo cable does that mean you are now "street legal" so can attend the Marcos 50th celebration in the UK in August?

Dear,
Sorry but even if my car is road legal and registered, I couldn't be with you this summer because I have to work in august.
I always have some wiper problems and I'd like to find how to put an oil cooler but my car is on the road and works very well.
It's very nice to drive it.
I raced with it last weeckend and it was a very good experience.

I knew storing useless junk in my head for years would come in handy sometime I found the Maxi cable fix in 1991.......
Easy/cheap oil cooler: oil takeoff from a Metro Turbo, and Mk 1 Mr2's have a lamina type cooler as standard if you can find one in the scrappers, or find a gearbox oil cooler from an Automatic Alfa 164 v6 |
