Hello All,
I have had a very reasonable quote from Adrian Flux to insure my car, but, talking to a colleague he said that they will wipe my no claims bonus. At the moment I have a few years no claims and don't won't to lose this. In the small print it does state "No claims bonus deleted"!
Has anyone else heard about this and know how to get round it?
Cheers all

Almost all specialist limited mileage policies don't add to or continue to your no claims discount as they are intended for second car, limited use. But most main stream companies are happy if you have one which is no more than 2 or 3 years old and you have no claims in the mean while, so you can go for a couple of years without worrying. If it's for an unlimited mileage, and normal as opposed to a classic car policy then I'd look elsewhere as they should offer no claims bonus's etc on such a policy.
For normal limited mileage classic car insurance I can personally recommend B. Portwood 01388 607105 who insure my Lotus Europa for just over £100 per year on a fully comp agreed value basis, and my fully rally prepared Mini Marcos is insured through David Auden & Associates 0161 4407590 again for just over £100, but that is on a third party only basis, but for a highly modified car that's miles less than any other quotes that I had.
But ultimately quotes differ hugely depending on all sorts, so all you really can do is get lots of them. I can still remember a quote a few years ago from Churchill for my daily driver which was nearly £2000 pounds more than the £300 odd that I finally insured it for. |

Hi all,
The cost was not the problem merely the fact that I would lose my no claims bonus. Seems like this was how most classic policies work or am I wrong?

On a similar subject, if I'm insuring my MM as an only car, and tell the insurance company it's a Mini kit car, is it classified as being "modified"? I ran some quotes online and it wasn't any more expensive than my current car, but when it comes to changing my policy I don't want there to be any nasty surprises! |

What is a "standard" kit car? If it's been built according to the specification i.e. any A-series engine, Mini suspension or Speedex beam, then it's not modified. If you've put a different type of engine in it or put the engine at the back or radically altered the bodywork then it is modified. However even if it's an only car you're probably better off going through the specialist agents or brokers who understand kit cars. What you don't want to happen is to have the insurers turn down a claim because they didn't appreciate what a Mini Marcos is. |

It's built according to spec, and is all correct on the log book. I will get quotes from "kit car" brokers as well, but the current policy runs until July so I may wait until then to change. |

Resurrecting this, just been in touch with my current insurers and will need to change provider as they don't cover kit cars. Who do people use for their insurance, bearing in mind this will be "on the road" all the time, approx 12,000 miles a year? |

Although mine is only insured for 1000 road miles per year through David Auden & Associates 0161 4407590, I'm reasonably sure that they also do policies for 12000 miles per year and unlimited milage. |

There are quite a few specialist insurers. Look on the General Links page under "insurance" but note that some of the links are for companies who have paid-for links on the home page, so they may not insure kitcars. Also check out the kit car mags. I use Adrian Flux but there are quite a few others - it pays to shop around. |

Have been working my way throught the links, I'd forgotten what it was like phoning insurance companies rather than filling in a form and getting a hundred quotes! Got a quote from Adrian Flux, and a couple of others. Will give David Auden a call as well, thanks Jim. |

Spent bits and pieces of the last two days phoning round, so thought I'd let people know the results:
Frank Pickles, Lancaster and David Auden all gave great quotes but my NCD would be lost. Adrian Flux, however, gave me a quote for a "normal" policy (that is, my NCD will continue). While it's the most expensive of the four (though only a few pounds more than Lancaster and not much more than David Auden) I think that's the best choice. |
