Spent the whole of yesterday swearing, cursing, attacking the engine bay with a crowbar and eventually getting a new exhaust manifold fitted.

The main problem was that the old one was the pressed steel version, whereas the replacement Maniflow version has overlapping pipes, making it a real pig to get past the bulkhead. I ended up having to take one of the U bolts off the driveshaft coupling to get enough clearance, then the usual manoeuvring to get it into place.

A job I thought would take a couple of hours, ended up taking nearly seven once it was all put back together! Back and shoulders feel like I've been competing in World's Strongest Man...

Sounds like the expirience I made removing the front subframe.....3 people and a whole day at least (that said - engine was still in. and no I did NOT try to pull it up through the top...classic dropping it down)

Putting the new one in wasnt much more fun.

It's that frustrating point when it seems to get most of the way there, only to need about 5mm more clearance to get past something. Still, it got there eventually, and certainly runs quieter than the old one (which was completely rotten at the join to the down pipe!) - just need a week or so to recover from the back strain now...
