Hi all,
Has anyone gone through / had problems with the paperwork to support a engine change? My mk3 origionally had a 850cc engine as on the log book,  but I have replaced this with a 1275. I obviously need to get this updated but it looks as though I may need to provide evidence that it has been fitted professionally?? Has anyone had any difficulties or is it worth a try giving it a go by just updating the details and sending it in??
Thanks all, just on the wiring now and then just the interior to go for another on the road!
Cheers,
Andy

Just send the details in they should just update it. The worst that will happen is they ask you for an engineers report some garages are happy to do this for a small fee.

I don't know about proof of professional fitting. I think DVLA are more interested in checking that the engine is from a legitimate source.

When I put a new engine in my UVA I sent off the receipt, the engine number and some photos.

Bad news! Got the dreaded letter back from dvla saying further evidence required. Utterly ridiculous...as far as I am aware biggest concern is people trying to get around car tax groups/ cost but for a car that's tax exempt...unbelievable!

Did you send photos of the new engine and engine number as I suggested?

Certainly did and they still  required further evidence so  I have now sent off an inspection report, fingers crossed again.

Andy, How did you get on? I have the same issue with my Jem and am waiting for the V5 back after applying for tax exemption (Can't do both together apparently). It seems to have been away a while?

Andy, My V5 came back today. Tax code: Historic Vehicle - result.
I've now sent it back with a covering letter from the garage that did my MOT, they added a bit about checking the new engine and that they were happy with the standard of work. So fingers crossed for me too.

Hi John, sorry I have only just seen your post. Glad you had a result. I did too with a letter from my MOT station. I am unaware that I have to change the v5 to be classed as tax exempt?! Just thought i would get MOT and then do the usual online taxing without any payment?? Will this not work then?! Cheers

Hi Andy,
I had to go to a 'major' PO to get mine changed taking V5 etc. I thought it was going to cost me £25 but it didn't in the end. Have a look at the .gov website. BTW you are legal while your application is being assessed

Did they do it there and then or did you have to fill in a form and send it off? Cheers John
