I'd say it would depend on exactly how incorrectly registered it is.

There was mention of how to do it in I think the last club magazine.

You don't say in what way your car is incorrectly registered and a lot will depend on exactly what you want changing. As a general rule I say DON'T unless it is VERY important/necessary that you do.

As someone who has done it, with a lot of help from Roger, I suppose I should comment further. (Although it was quite a few years ago)

In my case it had the incorrect chassis number from it's 1st registration (a badly stamped 8 had been read as a 3). That had never in practice caused any problems but as the MM register had 2 cars with the same chassis number and it was fairly clear what had happened to mine I thought I should correct it.

I had full documentation going back to 1st registration, clear photos of the chassis plate in different lights showing how the 8 could be read as a 3, an official letter from Roger stating the 2 known cars registered with the same chassis number and the fact that no car was known with my correct chassis number.

Initially all went well, a letter came back from the DVLA stating they would change my records and V5. Then after obviously landing on someone elses desk to do the change the problems started, was my car a genuine car?, were we trying to slip another car into the system etc. Lots of letters back and forward and Roger spending quite some time talking to the DVLA eventually sorted it and the records were changed and I received a revised V5. But that all took 18 months to 2 years. Time wise not a particular problem for me as I still had a V5, could still tax the car and had no plans on selling. But if I had wanted to sell in that time it could have been very difficult. There were times when I thought it might totally mess up the status of the car as a genuine old mini marcos. Many, many thanks Roger!

Since then the DVLA have apparently become even more strict, it's worth reading some of the more recent issues of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs news letter https://www.fbhvc.co.uk/newsletter-archive
They often have articles on this subject and it's problems. In fact they have a permanent section on negotiations with the DVLA and the latest implications which haven't been good recently.

In conclusion think very hard before starting down that route and if you do make 100% sure you have all the documentary evidence to back it up.

Hi
Sorry I didn't reply sooner . I didn't go for the car in the end ( they wanted more money anyway than I was prepared to risk. Car was registered as an Austin A30 which I thought was weird . I'm looking at buying one though and will keep an eye out for one in the future .
