No gelcoat is mainly cosmetic and uv protection but high build primer and paint will do the same job. Looking good by the way but I don't envy the sanding job to get it looking smooth again. Mike |

I prefer sanding, priming and painting and not put gel coat , but there is still a lot of work on the body |

Believe me fairing in primer/filler is a lot easier than doing it with gelcoat. Gelcoat is harder wearing than paint but most cars end up filled and painted anyway so as long as you remove or glass over all the cracks you'll have no problems if you don't the cracks will show through the filler/paint quicker than they would gelcoat.
