Looks great !

If V registration is 1979, then this car is now historic tax and needs no MOT... so you can drive it on the road as you like .. Happy Days!

unfortunatly according to the gov website it does need mot and tax as it was built after jan 1979.
But that doesnt matter as it still has the v5 from 1979 and if you apply for a new one they will come and inspect the vechicle to see if its a ringer,but if you get it mot,d first they look at that as being inspected so will supply a new v5

Picked up a brake conversion kit from himleyhall mini show.
No major problems fitting it,but i did have to grind a bit of the hub carrier to get the bolts to line up

It looks very nice. Mine's a V-reg first registered in 1980 so I'll have to MoT and tax it.

What's that sticking out of the bonnet? It should only need a small bump for a single SU. The original bonnet was designed for twin carbs.

If you want to make a new front panel, the inside of a Mini windscreen makes a good mould.

Thats the washer bottle it was just resting on the rocker cover,I dont know why the previous owner cut such a big hole in it.new bonnet required I think

next job,the saggy headliner.
there was two options on this
1 tear back the headliner from the windscreen,door,rear window pillars
2 cut the headliner straight down the middle
due to the fact it was fitted so well around the pillars and shaped and stuck down really well i didnt wont to do this as and taking the headliner totaly of ones side and getting it stuck back up on my own i would never have got it right.
so option two it was,this allowed me to get access to the rear hinge area aswell.
luckily the seam were i cut in the middle went back really well

its only taken about 16 hours to get the wiring for the rear lights sorted,loom was the wrong way round,numerous earths had to be added,relays,flasher units but they now all work

well i was on a roll i thought i would tackle the dash wiring,
for some reason the previous owner had decided to refit all the standard mini switches into the original mini switch panel and stuff it up under the dash.
that explains why the lights came on when i connected the battery.
i fitted some nos triumph switches back into the dash(got rid of the mini switches/panel, refitted some gauges and wiring and repplaced all the bulbs(which to my suprise halfords still sell)
know have a fully functional dash

I have a internal door handle missing(mk1/2 bent around the door cards)so was thinking maybe i could extend the square rod and use non bent handles,took the door card off to discover the window is smashed(i havnt rolled it up since i bought it)
so its a quick message to plastic4performance to get some lexan windows so not the end of the world,
it will make it faster anyway less weight

At last the windscreen is in,ended up putting the original screen back in(rather than the new one i had) as it fitted better
this was the hardest job so far even had my daughter and the misses helping

a couple of hours work with a staple gun and some wood.

Simon -- did you get the Lexan windows? Can you share pics? Im thinking of fixed front windows with slider kits in. Ive got two soft top cars (MR2 & Spitfire) for summer, will so use the Marcos more in cooler months - especially in the snow -wicked ..  

IMM is mid-August, so maybe 9 weeks of DVLA sh1te if you are taking the Marcos.. Id have no chance. Engine has not run in 30+ years ..

Yes I did get them,but unfortunately they dont fit as the templates used were for a marcos cars mk4 which have smaller windows. Mines a dh fibreglass mk4

had to take the wiper motor apart and turn the cog 180 degrees,
now the wiper blades stop on the passenger side not the drivers side

managed to get the bonnet secured down,unfortunatly the previous owner had cut the lip off at the front.
just need to sort the big hole out or stick a v8 in it with a holley carb out the bonnet

been having a look around trying to find something to cover the massive bonnet hole.
found a bonnet vent for a mitsubishi l200,i dont think it looks to bad,its only until i get a new bonnet

thinks havnt been going to good lately,
I re-ordered a new drivers window in the new dimensions as the previous ones i ordered were the wrong size.
Waited 5 weeks and they had sent me the same old dimension windows,so thats another long wait for replacements
and now i found out the dvla never received my v5 after 6 weeks of waiting(yeh of course it was lost in the post)
So now there will be no imm in the marcos for me

Ive been staying out of the garage for the last 3 weeks due to the problems with the dvla and a certain plastics company,just totaly took the wind out of my sails and put me right off the marcos.
But i did venture into the garage last night and though i would have another go at making a door handle as i had one left after the last one melted.
over the moon i actually managed it

Well worth chasing DVLA if you've not done so already. Had to do this when I bought my Marcos some years ago, the previous V5 was from the late 1980s so had probably been lost in their system somewhere!

D&H Mk IV 8313, KGV 215V (aka George) - 75,000 miles and counting since restoration in 2011.

first proper outing 100 mile round trip to llandudno
wipers were hardly touching the window and couldnt see much as it was raining very hard,then drivers wiper fell off just manage to catch it before it dissapered down the dual carrage way,then when it stopped raining the wipers wouldnt turn off,indicators stopped working and at one point carb stuck open at full revs.
so all in all a normal drive out in a kit car LOVED IT
