Bit of fun really, as the cars at the other end of the country and I'm sat here armed with a CBS catalogue! These are the rear light(s) fitted to the car at the moment:
What have you got fitted to your cars? (I quite like the modern LED lights in the catalogue, but I'm not sure they'd suit the car - what do you think?) |

I have filled all the holes that were in the back of mine... I would like the all in one LED units too. |

You could always fit LED bulbs inside Mini van rear lights (upside down, of course). |

Hello all,
Since you've asked graham, i prefere the early lights used (mini van upside down) or land rover style lights like the ones one the car, just well positioned.
I ended up fitting a light cluster from the metro as per Keith Roses ex Marcos, due to me using the metro loom and easy replacement. but i wish i hadn't because they don't look so good.

If I had a 'blank canvas' I think I too could be tempted to go the upside down mini van route, especially if it was possible to get a set that were perhaps lightly smoked or, as seen on modded cars on the continent, a dark red brake/tail section with a smoked indicator panel. With LED bulbs that could be the answer - a modern twist to a classic (and good looking!) set up. However, as the shells been painted and has the holes in place from Heritage, and I would like a modern-ish interpretation I think the round LEDs are the way I'll go. I'llhappily enlarge the holes (Matthew came up with an answer as to how I'll do that, keeping the holes concentric!) I just thought I'd have an ask to see what everyone else has done These: http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/122mm-stop-tail-and-indicator-pair-rl35-3505-p.asp (might be a bit large?) But what would I use in the other holes? These: http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/longlife-bulb-dual-concentric-fog-lamp-and-reflector-rl45-4408-p.asp Not LED but could work (and put another reverse light in the place of the current fog light). Perhaps not, with them being different sizes And its a shame these don't appear to be IVA complient - I'd like to keep the number of holes drilled in the shell to a minimum: http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/number-plate-bolt-lights-npbl-1721-p.asp
It's not like I've got to decide anytime soon - I could change my mind a dozen times yet!!! |

The answer may be to fit the cheapest possible compliant lights for the IVA, then afterwards you can change them and sell your 'IVA kit' to someone else for the same purpose. |

This is the one I showed you a few months ago with all the cracks in it. I haven't done anything over the winter. It will probably end up looking very similar to Foggy at the rear. |

Pictures of 'Foggy'?
|
|
It's a bit neater now, with an EU-style number plate in the middle and no GB sticker. Originally I had a yellow GB plate matching the number plate.
RAX is nice, but I'd have duplicated the fog and reversing lights. If you don't use angled lamps like the Mini van ones it's best to french in the lights otherwise they point downwards. |

IVA compliance shouldn't be a problem with almost all types of lamps, if they have an 'E' mark it's straight forward, but lights without the 'E' mark are fine as long as the light intensity is correct.
The critical part to the IVA compliance is the position of the lights. |

Graham - I love the those 122mm LED lamps. They are top of my list at the moment (but that could easily change).
On the topic of inverted van lights... I (personally) think they look great on Mk1-3 cars, but (IMHO) dont look so good with the silly bumper on Mk4 onwards models... |

Liking that Richard! And not an LED to be seen
How about door mirrors next then? I'd like to fit thin stem 'Formula' type mirrors, but haven't seen any of these that quote IVA compliant. (I think Ewan has these fitted) This might be a case of fitting something to get it registered than altering afterward (hopefully using the same mounting point). |

Not a digital photo either! Those came from one of the photo display boards I used to take around to shows in the 1990s.
Note the two shots of TMJ 147K, as I got it with the Mk.1 Cortina lights and after I'd restyled the back end. |
