Hi everyone. I've found a Jem that I really like but I have issues with headroom! I'm just over 6ft 2 but my height is mainly in my body as legs are fairly short. Just wondered if any other owners are as tall and if so what seats or modifications have they done? Thanks all |

It looks like you'll need reclining seats or raked-back racing seats, possibly in conjunction with a deeply dished steering wheel or a collapsible boss to bring the wheel closer. Start with the pedals, then the wheel and if as a result you have some headroom to spare add wooden battens under the runners to raise the seats. That also helps the runners to clear the carpet.
The other thing you can do is tip the seats backwards a bit with wedge shaped battens, but make sure that the weight is distributed across the floor and not concentrated in two or four spots.
Finally, something that's been done on one or two cars is to add a Gurney bubble (or two).

I'm 6'3" and have had several mini Jems and marcos I find its all in the seat choice I had some sparco bucket seats in one they had a very thin swab. The standard original jem seats are pretty good as Richard says lifting the front can help. I have also cut and dropped the floor which works well. I've also fitted a gurney bubble in my brothers race car he is 6'4". Mike |

I'm just addressing the same problem. If you need to wear a helmet, you have problems. I have about 1/2 inch above the helmet with the seat with 1 1/2 inch raised front. The seat is monaco pro and I am 5' 10'', longish body. Getting a race seat narrow enough to sit on the floor is one consideration. and of course the powers that be who stipulate the regulations on roll hoops, seats and helmets, which all take up more space won't let you do a bubble roof for fia racing. Its to do with the silhouette. and I think people on average are probably a bit taller tha 50 years ago. One solution may be just to cut a hole in the roof, they didn't think of banning that! |
